Encouraging Books to Read

Like many of you, this past month I’ve been able to read more. I love to read, but I usually get pretty busy with the every day grind and rarely make time for it. During this quarantine time I’ve been really enjoying slowing down and reading in the evening.

I’m a huge fan of self-help books and love to be reading for the purpose of personal development. I’m currently reading The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanna Stabile, and y’all I am obsessed with the enneagram! I’m a 2w3- if you don’t know the enneagram, this makes no sense to you lol.  There are several other self help books I’ve read in the past that have brought me peace and encouragement during times of stress in my life.

Today I’m going to share a handful of my favorites with you in hopes that these are able to help you out if you need a little encouragement right now in this weird world we are in.

Embraced: 100 Devotions to Know God is Holding You Close by Lysa TerKeurst

Get Embraced HERE

I received this devotional book three years ago after a difficult year of teaching. A friend gave it to me to help fill my cup over the summer. I have gone to this book countless times since. It’s full of wisdom, laughs, and encouraging reminders that God is in control and loves you. I absolutely love this devotional and plan on revisiting it (for the third time) after I am finishing with my current devotional book.

Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World by Max Lucado

Get Anxious for Nothing HERE

This book is FILLED with truth bombs! I nearly highlighted whole dang book! I read this book last summer when I hadn’t been diagnosed with PCOS yet, but knew something was UP with my body that I couldn’t control. This book brought me a lot of peace and I still use the tools I learned in this book today to manage anxiety. I love How Lucado breaks down of the verse Philippians 4:4-8 and teaches how to live out this verse with a nemonic. I found this tool so helpful that I actually memorized the entire verse (which is NOT something I’ve really ever done before). If you are anxious about the uncertainty of our world today, you need to read this book.

100 Days to Brave: Devotions for Unlocking Your Most Courageous Self by Annie Downs

Get 100 Days to Brave HERE

I have about 10 days of this devotion left, BUT I feel like I’ve read enough of it that I can recommend it confidence that you’ll love it! This book is fantastic if you are nervous about chasing a dream on your heart or making big changes in your life. The devotional is filled with a ton of funny stories, and even a few that will make your heart hurt a bit. But I love Downs’ take on the verses and how applicable she makes the bible to every day life.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Get Girl, Wash your Face HERE

It’s definitely not a secret by now that I have a massive girl crush on Rachel Hollis. I think my strong 3 wing relates to her 3-ness (enneagram talk…. I’m telling you friend, you need to read THIS book). This book was the book that started my journey to valuing personal development and slowly but surely I have made a lot of progress since reading this book a few years ago. This book helped me realize NO ONE has it all figured out, and there are tangible things I can do to change my life. If you’ve never considered diving into personal development, this time in quarantine is the perfect time to do it. I cannot recommend this book enough to start your journey on personal development.

I really hope one of these books speaks to you and brings encouragement and peace to you during these uncertain times. I firmly believe good comes out of every situation, and that filing our hearts and minds with positive words can be a great reminder of this. Do you have a book you love that is filled with encouraging words? Let me know in the comments! Stay safe and healthy friends!
